Spring 2009 Community Development Institute
Building on the practices of community workers, educators and social change activists – Paulo Freire and Myles Horton, the 2009 Toronto Community Development Spring Institute creates a space to explore diverse viewpoints and celebrate community development.
In a spirit of collaboration and democracy the Spring Institute will be a shared dialogue between community development workers, academics, activists, pacifists, policy makers, artists, researchers and the general community.
Throughout three days of interactive workshops, engaging plenary sessions, and collaborative working groups you will learn lessons from the past, work collaboratively in the moment, and lay the foundation to create a more equitable, and sustainable future.
The Spring 2009 Community Development Institute creates opportunities to:
- Share and transform your experience and learning in the field
- Unpack, analyze, and synthesize your feelings and attitudes surrounding community/organizing
- Learn or revisit theoretical and foundational knowledge
- Network for greater coordination and movement building
- Have fun with others who are doing similar or complementary work
